Under the name Web Services Modeling Ontology (WSMO), the DIP Project in conjunction with the W3C will explore the possibilities of standardizing the syntax and structures required to integrate meaning and relation -- semantics -- onto web services.
This will be an interesting specification to watch given its implications in the SOA space. The current work being done by other major bodies strongly concentrated on web services -- OASIS and WS-* come to mind -- may well have or will have some overlap in addressing these issues, since integrating semantics onto web services also seems like a worthwhile goal to the overall SOA scene.
