BEA unveils AquaLogic product line for SOA.

Branded as AquaLogic, the details on BEA's new product line are becoming more clear ( BEA dives into application assembly ). My previous post on BEA's announcement quoted an executive touting this product line as : bringing applications together by configuration, not necessarily coding, using XML instead of Java, unfortunately, he missed one queue from his technical team, mentioning : SOA ("Service Orientated Architecture").This new initiative by BEA is indeed a push into the SOA landscape, as it battles the new war of words in the enterprise software market.

SOA is basically a holistic approach into web services. Even though web services have been on the radar for a considerable amount time, so much that all the major platforms have support for them, including Java, .NET, PHP and Perl, orchestrating their usability for various functions and justifying their business value as whole is a term that is being dubbed by industry experts as : Service Orientated Architecture.

This "new" approach to structuring an architecture around (web)services has given way to a series of changes by major vendors. The next evolutionary step for Microsoft's .NET -- code named Indigo -- is also a push into SOA. IBM also has its own offerings evolving around this concept and J2EE.

There are even niche market players promoting an ESB ("Enterprise Service Bus"), a piece of software that is essential -- so they say -- to achieving a Service Orientated Architecture, an approach which is obviously not held by established players.

This new push by BEA will surely be another battleground as it fights neck and neck to win market and mind share from its rivals.
