J2EE vendors moving up the stack -- without Java ?

With increased competition from other technology platforms and the J2EE open source community catching up on the same functionalities offered by major brands, I guess it's no surprise J2EE vendors would eventually abandon the Java purist approach.

BEA has plans for a new product line -- and while the details are still scarce -- its intentions are clear : "tasks will be easier because most of the coding will be done by modifying XML rather than Java", "You bring applications together by configuration, not necessarily coding", "use of visual tools and minimal coding".

Ok, I coded J2EE applications back when EJB was in its 1.1 version -- even then you needed to modify XML -- and it did not matter what tools you used, J2EE was and is possibly still complex to digest, because it solves complex problems.

Kudos to BEA for trying to make turn-key products to solve and accelerate application development time in J2EE, but come on! Trying to spoonfeed new products by branding them non-Java as a panacea, just doesn't cut it.
