ASP.NET 2.0 Portal Framework
ASP.NET 2.0 will be introducing the Portal Framework, a powerful feature which will allow you to design highly customizable layouts that can be altered on a per user basis. A design staple for the biggest sites on the Internet like Yahoo and Amazon, in which every user can personalize his or her content, this will surely be one of the most welcomed features in the newest .NET version.

Although you can get away with this type of functionality through third party libraries in the current version of .NET, the tight integration and support on the core .NET platform is an important milestone.
Working with the actual portal framework will require you to learn a few extra web controls -- pretty much as every other feature in ASP.NET. The actual page will be composed of WebPart's -- the lingua franca for the portal framework -- which will have the capabilities of being rendered on a per user basis.
An exciting time if you are a .NET developer, but if you develop Java/J2EE applications you may have bragging rights, since the Portlet API has been delivering this same functionality for some time and is supported by various J2EE vendors with even an open source implementation produced by Apache named Pluto.
